How to keep January 'dry'

How did your New Year start? With the bang of fireworks, a fun tradition, or maybe getting to sleep in, 2023 marks another year with goals and opportunities ahead. For many Americans, ‘Dry January’ is a resolution made each year, to set themselves up for success. Not only does this resolution have personal health benefits, but it also bleeds into other areas of their life.  

Dry January is seen as more attainable than other resolutions since it is not a long-term change, merely a month-long goal. During the first month with no alcohol, you may start to notice better hydration and improved quality of sleep. You may even notice significant changes in your health, such as a reduction of acid reflux. 

This sober resolution helps to decrease alcohol-related danger at home and on the road. Between the hours of 6 p.m. on December 31 and 6 a.m., on January 1, there are 71% more alcohol-related accidents than any other day of the year. This puts many people, even ones who plan accordingly, into unneeded danger.
