Company History

The history of Rockingham Insurance began in 1869 with the founding of Rockingham Home Mutual. In that year, a group of farmers gathered at a small church in Port Republic, Virginia, in the heart of the Shenandoah Valley. These property owners faced the challenges of rebuilding shortly after the end of the Civil War. Driven by a desire to protect their property against future losses, they created the Rockingham Home Mutual Fire Insurance Company. These pioneers became members of the mutual company. The mutual company is now known as Rockingham Insurance. Holding fire policies that cover structures such as mills, silos, barns, and homes.

From these humble beginnings, Rockingham Insurance has experienced significant growth and transformation. Throughout its history, the company has expanded through mergers with other mutual companies in Virginia. This growth has allowed Rockingham Insurance to enhance its offerings and broaden its reach.
